What happens during a rewire?

A home rewire is one of the most intrusive types of work that can occur in the home. Every room needs to be accessed in order to install new wiring for light switches, light fittings, plug sockets and other electrical accessories.

There are several stages of a rewire that are necessary and as your local ELECTRICIAN IN HEMEL HEMPSTEAD Paradigm Electrical Solutions are the rewire experts in the area.

Initial Contact and Quote

From your initial contact you will notice that we respond quickly to your enquiry to arrange a quote for your rewire. We will organise a mutually convenient time to come and check your current electrical system, talk through what is involved and discuss your requirements with you.

Before our visit, think through how you use your home and where plug sockets, outdoor lighting and light switches will be necessary. Its important to ensure that you allow for additional plug sockets in the kitchen, living room and master bedroom. The need for additional plug sockets in homes has increased over the years and this will continue.

Consider how many downlights, light fittings, and other electrical accessories you will need so we can provide you with an accurate quote for your needs.

Route planning

Every home is different and running cables throughout the property can be challenging. We will begin to plan the cable routes for all the electrical circuits to minimise disruption throughout the process and to ensure that the rewire progresses smoothly and quickly.

First Fix

Floorboards are lifted in strategic locations, the walls are cut to allow the cables and back boxes for the wiring to be installed and testing is carried out to ensure that there are no faults with the wiring.

Even though cables are new, manufacturing defects can occasionally occur and accidental damage to wires during installation. We carry out electrical testing throughout the process to ensure that the wiring will be safe to use and up to the latest electrical standards.

Safety Earthing is carried out where necessary to the pipework and other necessary parts of the home to ensure that electric shock risk is completely minimised.

Second Fix

The accessories and consumer unit are installed. All plug sockets are screwed back to the walls along with lights switches and other electrical equipment. Final testing is carried out on the wiring to ensure that it is safe to energise.

The Electric shock protection is tested at the consumer unit to ensure that the devices will turn off in the correct time to prevent shocks and injury. Functional testing is carried out to ensure that consumer unit trip switches, plug sockets and light switches are working as intended.

Testing, Inspection and Certification

Once the final testing has been completed, the Electrical Installation Certificate is produced detailing the test results, the compliance of the new installation with the wiring standards and the Building Control Notification (Domestic Properties) is carried out.

This means that your new wiring system is fully compliant and legally carried out.
